NEW YORK; June 11, 2003 –Accenture today announced that Mary Tolan, Group Chief Executive, Resources, has been named Corporate Development Officer and that David Thomlinson, head of the company’s Resources operating group in Europe, the Middle East, Africa (EMEA) and Latin America, will succeed Ms. Tolan as Group Chief Executive, Resources. These changes are effective immediately.
Ms. Tolan, a 21-year veteran of Accenture, has served as Group Chief Executive, Resources for the past three years. In her new role as Corporate Development Officer, she will focus on new businesses for Accenture, exploring both organic growth and acquisition opportunities. She will report to Jack Wilson, Chief Executive – Business Process Outsourcing, and will work closely with him and the BPO organization team to increase Accenture’s share of the growing BPO market.
Ms. Tolan, who will continue to be based in Chicago, will remain a member of Accenture’s Management Committee and an executive officer of the company.
Joe W. Forehand, Accenture chairman & CEO, said, “Under Mary’s exemplary leadership of our Resources operating group, Accenture has become a leader in building, with its clients, the energy companies of the future. At a time when outsourcing represents an increasingly significant part of our overall business, Mary brings to her new role her leadership and expertise in successfully launching Accenture Business Services of British Columbia and CustomerWorks -- examples of shared services businesses that we intend to leverage across other operating groups and industries.”
Mr. Thomlinson will lead the $2 billion Resources operating group, which comprises a global team of 11,000 professionals experienced in the energy, utilities, chemicals, forest products and metals and mining industries. As with other group chief executives, he will report to Accenture’s Office of the CEO. Mr. Thomlinson will join Accenture’s Management Committee and is expected to become an executive officer of Accenture upon approval by Accenture’s board of directors in July. He will continue to be based in London.
Mr. Forehand commented, “With a distinguished 14-year track record working with clients in the Resources marketplace, David is a natural choice to succeed Mary as the leader of the operating group. “We expect that he will build upon our Resources operating group’s strong results of outperforming its market and industry peers in terms of growth and market share.”
