London Metropolitan Police Service and Accenture Complete Analytics Pilot Program to Fight Gang Crime

LONDON; October 27, 2014 – The Metropolitan Police Service (MPS) and Accenture (NYSE: ACN) have completed a pilot program to develop an analytics solution to fight gang crime in London. The pilot supported the MPS to assess the likelihood of known individuals re-offending.

The twenty-week pilot merged data from various crime reporting and criminal intelligence systems used by MPS and applied predictive analytics to generate risk scores on the likelihood of known individuals committing violent crimes. The project targeted individuals across all known gangs in all thirty-two London boroughs and was delivered through Accenture Analytics, part of Accenture Digital.

“The MPS is keen to make smarter use of technology in the fight against crime, ensuring we are intelligence-led at all times,” said Detective Superintendent Tim Champion, of the MPS Trident Gang Crime Command.

Speaking on the completion of the pilot program, James Slessor, Managing Director of Accenture’s policing and public safety business said, “This analytics project was the first of its kind in the UK where digital capabilities such as advanced analytics were deployed to help answer the critical question of who is more likely to commit a violent crime. Our goal was to provide MPS with an unprecedented level of insight and intelligence to help them continue to reduce gang-related crimes in the city.”
