Japan’s Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry, and Fisheries Selects Accenture to Support Export Strategy Execution

MAFF Exports aims to hit ¥ 1 Trillion ahead of 2020

TOKYO ; Sept. 8, 2016 – Accenture (NYSE: ACN) will provide management consulting services for Japan’s Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries (MAFF) in support of its 2016 Export Strategy Execution Project. The project aims for early achievement of the government’s goal of expanding annual exports of Japanese agricultural, forestry and fishery products and foods to about ¥1 trillion by 2020.

The Japanese government is mobilizing public and private sector stakeholders for an aggressive export expansion initiative. In May of this year, the government formulated its export strategy for agriculture, forestry and fisheries and the Ministry is holding Export Strategy Executive Committee meetings -- including public and private sector experts – to verify progress toward export expansion.

Accenture will support the progress verification process with guidance from the Export Strategy Executive Committee. Accenture also will coordinate a survey and analysis of market trends and regulations, among relevant countries, and will support development of a framework to administer the export strategy. In addition, the company will support operation of subcommittees on key products and export themes, addressing marketing and distribution strategy, as well as regulatory aspects. In 2014, Accenture worked on an earlier phase of the project supporting the development of MAFF’s export expansion strategy and formation of export organizations for agriculture, forestry and fisheries commodities.

“We are very honored to be able to support facilitation of this project in support of a key priority of the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry, and Fisheries,” said Hiroshi Goto, managing director of Accenture Health & Public Service in Japan. “Building on work from 2014, we will leverage Accenture’s unsurpassed industry knowledge, experience, and global network to support expansion of Japan’s exports of agricultural, forestry and fishery products and foods.”
