Erie Insurance Group Selects SeeBeyond to Enable Enterprise-Wide Integration for eCommerce Initiative

SeeBeyond Platform To Support The ERIE’s Business Model of Distributing Insurance Products Exclusively Through Independent Agents

MONROVIA, Calif., Jan. 23, 2002 – SeeBeyond (Nasdaq: SBYN), the leading global provider of eBI solutions, today announced that Erie Insurance Group (ERIE) has selected SeeBeyond as its preferred eBusiness Integration platform provider. The ERIE will utilize the SeeBeyond e*Gate Integrator solution as the foundation for its enterprise-wide eCommerce initiative. Accenture (NYSE: ACN), the world’s leading management consulting and technology services organization and a SeeBeyond alliance partner, was selected by ERIE to lead the implementation of the SeeBeyond platform. Announced by ERIE in March, the eCommerce initiative supports the insurer’s business model of distributing its products exclusively through independent agents.

As one of the leading property/casualty insurers in the United States, Erie Insurance Group has embarked on a five-year eCommerce plan focused on delivering a network of coordinated, efficient and convenient services for its agents, employees and policyholders. The comprehensive plan is aimed at helping The ERIE reach a new level in service capability. "This is a time of great opportunity for The ERIE," said John Sommerwerck, senior vice president & CIO for Erie Insurance Group. "The quality service capabilities of our agents and employees is what differentiates us from our competitors. By leveraging solutions such as the SeeBeyond platform, we will enhance our exceptional personal service, increase sales and retain hard-won business."

Utilizing the leading integration platform from SeeBeyond, ERIE will enable its commercial/personal lines policy systems to seamlessly integrate with a complete customer relationship management system, providing web access to more than 7500 independent agents. Initial releases will support policy initiation and product sales. Later releases will enhance access via the Internet, add convenience for policyholders and agents, and provide tools to employees to further streamline the claims process.

The alliance between SeeBeyond and Accenture provides The ERIE with both the technology strength of SeeBeyond and Accenture’s experience in implementing Web-enabled, integrated solutions that extend legacy systems in the insurance industry. As part of the initiative, Accenture will also help The ERIE adopt the Association for Cooperative Operations Research and Development (ACORD) XML specifications.

"With a focus on providing the utmost in customer service in the most efficient manner possible, enabling the seamless flow of information across departmental and organizational boundaries is critical," said Frank Fallon, vice president of Financial Services for SeeBeyond. "It’s great see leading organizations, such as ERIE, one of the nation’s leading insurance companies, looking to SeeBeyond to help them enhance the way they interact and communicate."
