Accenture to Team with Serco for Transformation of Defence Business Services
for U.K. Ministry of Defence

LONDON, May 8, 2012 – Accenture (NYSE:ACN) has announced that it has been selected to team with Serco Group PLC on a four-year, £36 million management contract awarded by the United Kingdom Ministry of Defence (MOD) to deliver service transformation across the MOD’s Defence Business Services (DBS).

Accenture will provide management consulting services for DBS and will team with Serco on the review and analysis of DBS operations and processes. The Accenture-Serco team will explore MOD’s potential to expand the range of services provided by DBS both within defence and across other areas of government over time.

A new leadership team, led by Serco, has been put in place to deliver service operations and drive transformation across the organization. Accenture was selected to team with Serco due to its global shared services expertise and transformational experience across a range of private- and public- sector clients.

To demonstrate commitment and confidence in the consulting teams’ ability to deliver business savings and added-value services at DBS, an innovative ‘payment-by-results’ contract for back-office services has been agreed with MOD.

Speaking on the agreement, Ger Daly, managing director of Accenture’s global Defense & Public Safety business, said, “The combined operational and transformation experience of Accenture and Serco will help drive effective and efficient shared services across the MOD. All parties are fully committed to delivering the required savings and other transformational benefits for the U.K. government. Accenture will bring its deep industry skills and extensive shared services expertise to help drive continuous improvement and excellence at DBS.”

“The Serco and Accenture team will provide the full range of corporate services within Defence Business Services to create a high-performing service delivery organization that will be best placed to meet the MOD’s future business service needs,” said Mark Lyons, Accenture’s U.K. and Ireland managing director for Health & Public Service. “This contract is an important milestone in the development of public-private sector collaborations, to deliver increased efficiencies across the U.K. public sector.”

Ian Downie, managing director of Serco Joint Ventures, said: “Our Serco contract with MOD and our teaming with Accenture places us at the heart of the MOD’s defence transformation process in the U.K. In collaboration, we will help DBS deliver the required savings and go on to achieve significant service enhancements through ‘back office’ transformation enabling MOD to focus its resources on frontline defence needs in these challenging times. The Serco and Accenture arrangement forms a highly effective team, with a unique combination of transformational skills, capabilities and experience. We bring together the best of commercial services with deep public-sector and defence understanding, which will benefit DBS and MOD today and into the future -- well beyond the life of this contract.”
