Accenture Implements New Cargo Booking System at LAN CARGO

NEW YORK; Feb. 7, 2011 – LAN CARGO, the cargo subsidiary of LAN Airlines (NYSE: LFL), has deployed a new cargo reservation management system with Accenture (NYSE: ACN) providing its cargo booking software designed for freight and logistics and acting as system integrator. The new cargo reservation system is intended to further provide competitive air cargo service to the thousands of shippers that use LAN CARGO’s services each day.

As the prime system integrator for the software platform, Accenture worked with LAN CARGO to deploy and maintain the new cargo booking system. The cargo booking system that LAN CARGO has deployed is part of the Accenture Freight and Logistics Software (AFLS) solution.

“With this initiative LAN CARGO remains in the forefront of the industry. By increasing our capabilities and cost-efficiencies of our cargo reservation system we will drive growth, improve competitiveness and increase customer satisfaction,” said Jorge Ismael Torres, LAN CARGO’s Director of Revenue Management. “In selecting Accenture we based it on the strength of their proven freight and logistics software solutions coupled with their extensive experience with the air cargo industry.”

The cargo reservation system gives LAN CARGO the ability to run real-time operational checks that will reduce re-routing of shipments as more thorough capacity and restriction checks are done before accepting orders.  LAN CARGO’s expected benefits from this new cargo reservation management system include better visibility of network availability, ability to offer multiple options to its customers, information technology (IT) cost savings, and increased operational efficiencies.

“One of the many challenges facing air cargo operators is understanding the network availability and assessing the operational requirements of a shipment at time of booking in terms of ability to deliver as promised while being able to provide value-added and cost effective options to its shippers,” said Adriana Diener, a senior executive for Accenture’s Air, Freight & Logistics and Travel Service group said.  “LAN CARGO recognizes this, and we are privileged to be able to provide to them the latest in cargo reservation solutions built with Accenture software.”

Accenture is also providing ongoing software support as part of the contract through its Freight and Logistics Center of Excellence in Chennai, India and in San Jose, California.
