Accenture Federal Services Wins Contract from U.S. Department of Agriculture to Build Cloud Solution Based on SAP HANA®

ARLINGTON, Va.; Oct. 3, 2018 – Accenture (NYSE: ACN) has been awarded a contract to build a new cloud solution for the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) Office of the Chief Financial Officer. The contract, which has an estimated value of $501.2 million over a 10-year performance period, is part of the USDA’s broader modernization effort.

Under the terms of the contract, Accenture Federal Services (AFS) will help the USDA continue to migrate the technology for its financial operations from an on-premise data-center-based architecture to a cloud solution that will support applications and database requirements for storage, networking and infrastructure. AFS will provide services to install, configure and transition the new environment for the USDA’s financial services and will provide hosting services in an enterprise-scale cloud environment.

“Accenture Federal Services is honored to support the USDA’s transition to a cloud-based environment,” said Allen Gaudet, a managing director with Accenture Federal Services. “This new cloud solution will enable the agency’s modernization and is a testament to the USDA’s ongoing commitment to improve service delivery for its stakeholders. We are thrilled to partner with the agency as it accelerates the use of emerging technologies and benefits from the transformative capabilities that they deliver.”

As the prime contractor to the USDA, AFS manages the SAP landscape in the SAP NS2 Secure HANA Cloud (SHC) solution. Operated by SAP National Security Services, the SHC is a cloud offering that provides SAP enterprise-grade infrastructure with secure managed services to help support USDA’s mission-critical SAP applications. Other technology vendors supporting the contract include Louisiana Technology Group, Inc., ManpowerGroup Public Sector, Inc. and Carahsoft Technology Corp.

AFS began its relationship with the USDA in 2001 and today works on several USDA contracts, including for the operations of the financial management system, which was part of the agency’s Financial Management Modernization Initiative (FMMI), a 10-year project to modernize and consolidate the agency’s core financial systems and processes. AFS is the infrastructure architect of FMMI, which has been expanded to handle all financial management across more than a dozen USDA agencies.

USDA is one of the first federal agencies to migrate large SAP HANA workloads to a FedRAMP-certified cloud. FedRAMP, the Federal Risk and Authorization Management Program, is a government-wide program that provides a standardized approach for assessing, authorizing and continuously monitoring the security of cloud products and services. The Accenture Federal Cloud ERP solution has also been awarded FedRAMP authorization, a critical federal cloud security designation.
