Accenture and Nortel Networks Join Forces to Help Telecommunications Service Providers Transform Their Businesses to Thrive in New Internet Service Economy

Companies Form Global Alliance To Help Service Providers Manage and Deliver New eCommerce Services

TORONTO/BOSTON, February 16 - Accenture and Nortel Networks today announced a global alliance to help telecommunications service providers build the business infrastructure to create, deliver and manage robust new eCommerce applications and services - quickly and profitably.

"A new Internet service economy is emerging. Service providers can no longer effectively compete on basic Internet access alone," said Steve Nicolle, Vice-President and General Manager, Service Ware Solutions, Nortel Networks. "Both new and established service providers need to ’dot-com’ their businesses, build personalized relationships with their customers and - through a cost-effective, scalable business model - rapidly create new services to address this exploding market."

With this alliance, Accenture and Nortel Networks have the ability to provide customized solutions for service providers’ networking needs -- from software and equipment to the skills required to build next-generation internet protocol (IP) network, service and business strategies. As leaders in eCommerce and building the high-performance Internet, Accenture and Nortel Networks are well positioned to enable service providers to succeed in a rapidly evolving marketplace.

The companies said the relationship was forged to help transform the service provider-customer relationship by providing seamless solutions for IP service delivery and management; an integrated delivery of services across customer care, billing, activation, provisioning, and assurance platforms; and intelligence-based services enabled by Nortel Networks’ Preside(x) policy management, security, quality of service (QoS) and directory solutions.

"The Preside service-enabling software portfolio will give service providers a solid understanding of customer preferences; deliver tailored services specific to each customer; and leverage creative, new self- service tools," said Nicolle.

Accenture and Nortel Networks are currently engaged in discussions with a number of global service provider companies to provide these innovative solutions.

"In the next few years, winning in the IP networking space will be critical for service provider companies," said Andre Hughes, Global Managing Partner, Network Transformation for Accenture. "While delivering profitable IP services is inherently challenging, products such as Nortel Networks’ Preside portfolio provide the required capabilities for IP service delivery and management. By giving telecommunications companies a single source to understand and integrate IP into an extended network, this alliance will help these companies capture new traffic, add substantial revenue growth, and increase their competitive positioning."

"This global alliance is strategically important for both Nortel Networks and Accenture," said Nicolle. "With Preside, service providers can create a rich set of eServices. This capability, combined with the IP service business integration expertise of Accenture, will allow service providers to create IP-enabled business strategies that deliver profitable, differentiated, and reliable IP services."

As part of the alliance, Accenture professionals will be fully trained on the Nortel Networks’ Preside portfolio. Nortel Networks and Accenture intend to build world-class delivery capabilities using the Accenture Global Solution Center network. Accenture and Nortel Networks will also form joint account teams to manage marketplace opportunities.

This Global Alliance serves as a proof-point and enhances Nortel Network’s recently announced Global Professional Services strategy by leveraging Accenture’s world-class business integration skills and solutions.
