Accenture’s Mary Legere Receives Saint Isidore Army Cyber Award
ARLINGTON, Va.; Oct. 9, 2018 – Accenture (NYSE: ACN) today announced that Lt. Gen. Mary Legere, USA (Ret.), a managing director in Accenture Federal Services, has received the Saint Isidore Army Cyber award. Sponsored by the Armed Forces Communications and Electronics Association (AFCEA), the award recognizes individuals who demonstrate exceptional initiative, leadership, insight and cyber excellence within their area of expertise.
Legere was presented the Gold Level Medallion, awarded to those who “have rendered conspicuous long-term service and so singularly distinguished themselves as contributors to the Army Cyber Mission that they have few peers.”
Lt. Gen. Mary Legere, USA (Ret.)
Legere joined AFS in April 2017 as a managing director in the national defense and intelligence business. In her previous role as the U.S. Army’s senior intelligence officer, she led the development and implementation of the Army’s multi-billion-dollar strategic plan, increasing the Army’s cyber capabilities while supporting complex multi-discipline operations across the globe. As a military leader, Legere directed intelligence, security and cyber organizations, including the Army’s enterprise of 58,000 intelligence professionals in 140 countries and its 17,000-person U.S. Intelligence and Security Command.
In presenting the award, Commanding General of U.S. Army Cyber Command Lt. Gen. Stephen G. Fogarty, USA, and AFCEA International President and CEO Lt. Gen. Robert M. Shea, USMC (Ret.), noted Legere’s distinguished service to the cyberspace community in the establishment of the Army’s cyber capabilities. Legere was also recognized for her previous and continued contributions in establishing, expanding, increasing and maturing the Army’s cyber capabilities, readiness and operational expertise.
“We are so pleased that Mary is being recognized for her extraordinary contributions to the intelligence mission,” said John Goodman, chief executive of Accenture Federal Services. “Mary’s leadership and experience in DoD intelligence and cyber operations has helped keep our nation safe in the ever-changing environment of evolving threats.”
AFCEA is a member-based non-profit international organization that has helped members advance information technology, communications and electronics capabilities since 1946. The Saint Isidore Army Cyber Award, bestowed annually, has three levels – gold, silver and bronze – with medals presented based on categories of recipients and levels of achievement. Awardees have their names inscribed on a plaque and receive a gold medallion with a ribbon and a certificate. In 2017, Maj. Gen. George J. Franz, USA (Ret.), a managing director with AFS, also received the Saint Isidore Army Cyber gold level medallion.
The award was created in 2011 after Saint Isidore of Seville (560-636) was chosen to "represent the highest ideal of the essence of cyber security and the study of the evolving world of challenges of tomorrow." He is considered by many to be the patron saint of the Internet. This year, 37 military and civilian cyber professionals were honored with the Saint Isidore Army Cyber Award for 2018.
