MAFF Selects Accenture to Help Japan Achieve ¥1 Trillion in Annual Exports

Agricultural, Forestry and Fisheries Products and Food Industries Targeted

TOKYO; July 31, 2014 – Accenture (NYSE: ACN) today announced that it has signed a contract to provide management consulting services for Japan’s Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries (MAFF) to support initiatives aimed at achieving ¥1 trillion in annual exports of Japanese agricultural, forestry and fisheries products and foods by 2020. The work is being conducted on behalf of MAFF’s newly created Export Strategy Executive Project.

MAFF set the ¥1 trillion export goal in August 2013 as part of a region-specific and product-specific export strategy. Last month, the Ministry established the Export Strategy Executive Committee to create initiatives and develop a framework for achieving MAFF’s export strategy. Accenture will support the administration of the executive committee.

Accenture will research and analyze overall market trends and identify the specific needs of each of the priority products and markets identified in MAFF’s export strategy. Accenture will also support running subcommittees that have been established for each priority product, conduct feasibility studies for the development of marketing and distribution strategies and measures to address standards, regulations and certifications for targeted export markets. Additionally, it will consult with a range of enterprises involved in agricultural, forestry and fisheries products and food, and work with MAFF to finalize the policies that will govern these industries in Japan.

“It is a great honor for Accenture to partner with the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries and support the promotion of this project,” said Joichi Ebihara, managing director of Accenture Strategy in Japan and Accenture’s lead executive on the project. “Working in close collaboration with the company’s offices in 56 countries worldwide, Accenture will leverage its knowledge and credentials in marketing and supply chain management in an effort to contribute to raising the value of Japan’s agricultural, forestry and fisheries products and food in global markets.”
