Accenture Supports Dress for Success with Grant to Expand Career Center Workshops in 10 U.S. Cities
NEW YORK; January 15, 2013 – Accenture announced today that it has awarded Dress for Success Worldwide US$78,000 to develop content and materials for 10 new skills workshops to be delivered in 10 cities across the United States. This grant is part of Accenture’s Skills to Succeed initiative, which will equip 250,000 people around the world by 2015 with the skills to get a job or build a business.
The workshops will be offered at Dress for Success Career Center locations in Austin, Charlotte, Chicago, Denver, Indianapolis, Los Angeles, Minneapolis, New York, Tampa, and Washington, D.C. Accenture employees will also help by hosting and teaching the skills training curriculum on a volunteer basis.
“The creation of these new workshops furthers Accenture’s commitment to developing people’s skills and talents,” said Michael Scimo, North American human capital and diversity lead, Accenture. “We share Dress for Success’ commitment to equip women with the skills they need to seek meaningful, long-lasting employment and become economically independent.”
The grant is designed to deliver additional skills training curriculum to Dress for Success so the organization can provide its members with a competitive edge when seeking or starting employment. Each workshop will focus on different career development issues, such as introduction to sales, data entry and reporting, email essentials, business and writing grammar, and presentation skills.
“As a result of Accenture’s grant and volunteer efforts, we estimate that our affiliates will be able to serve up to 50 percent more women through our Career Centers,” said Joi Gordon, CEO of Dress for Success Worldwide. “The technology, resources and support that the Career Centers provide are essential for Dress for Success clients who are taking steps to have successful lives and careers, and we are grateful to Accenture for teaming with us on this effort.”
Dress for Success Career Centers offer in-person workshops to develop key skills that unemployed and recently-employed women need to succeed in today’s workplace. The workshops provide a safe environment to learn and practice behaviors and concepts that employers look for.
