Accenture Achieves Global ISO 14001 Certification

More than 50 locations included in certification designating effective environmental management systems in place

NEW YORK; May 5, 2009 – Accenture (NYSE: ACN) has received Global ISO 14001 Environment Management System (EMS) certification from BSI. The certification covers 53 Accenture locations around the world, including the United States, Canada, South Africa and countries throughout Europe, South America and Asia.

ISO 14001, an internationally recognized standard for EMS, helps organizations demonstrate environmental commitment to their stakeholders – clients, employees, shareholders – while better managing environmental impact and risk. Organizations seeking ISO 14001 certification must identify significant impacts – such as carbon emissions, energy use, water consumption – and implement environmental management programs to control and improve them.

“Achieving this certification is a significant milestone in Accenture’s environmental journey, and it’s due in large part to the efforts of our people,” said Adrian Lajtha, Accenture’s chief leadership officer. “They bring our commitment to environmental stewardship to life every day through a host of initiatives in the communities where we live and work.”

Accenture’s environmental efforts include programs to measure and manage aggregate environmental impact, and to engage employees in these efforts through training, local action teams and special events. The company plans to continue working towards earning ISO certification for additional locations.

Rob Wallis, Managing Director, BSI EMEA, said: “BSI is pleased to award Accenture certification to ISO 14001. The company has embraced and implemented the principles of this Environmental Management System and we are confident that it will seek to continually improve its environmental programs. Our work with Accenture in several regions of the world has enabled a truly international approach to supporting its business needs.”
