Accenture Accepts Minority Corporate Counsel Association’s “Employer of Choice” Award

CHICAGO; March 16, 2006 – Accenture today announced that it received the Minority Corporate Counsel Association’s (MCCA) 2006 Employer of Choice Award. The award recognizes a company’s commitment to diversity via its contribution to creating and maintaining an inclusive environment.

“Accenture’s Legal & Commercial group is honored to accept this award,” said Joel Stern, Accenture’s director of legal services, Americas. “Doug Scrivner, Accenture’s general counsel and secretary, has long-recognized the value of sending a unified diversity message – both internally and externally. Specifically, Doug was instrumental in expanding the scope of Accenture’s legal group’s diversity initiatives by joining a public ‘call to action’ that has reaffirmed our company’s commitment to diversity in the legal profession. The call is for real action to ensure that law firms and corporate legal departments, such as ours, increase the numbers of women and minority attorneys hired and retained.”

As part of Accenture’s ‘call to action’ commitment, the company developed an online diversity survey to measure how its law firms support women, minorities and openly gay, lesbian and transgender attorneys. The survey, which Accenture distributed to outside counsel in August 2005, reviews quantitative demographics – such as law student recruitment, lateral hiring, retention and promotion – and informs legal providers that Accenture will decide which law firms represent it based in significant part on the law firms’ diversity performance.

“The legal and business interests of Accenture and its clients require legal representation that reflects the diversity of our employees and clients, and the communities in which Accenture does business – and we hold ourselves to the same standard,” said Doug Scrivner. “The key barometers of success for Accenture’s U.S. legal group are recruiting, retention, advancement and visibility. We believe awards such as the MCCA Employer of Choice Award are public indications that we are making real, visible progress on these metrics. And while this is all part of the ongoing journey for all of us – we know we are not at the “finish line” – we are pleased with and proud of our successes so far.”

The Employer of Choice Award was presented to Accenture last night at the MCCA’s Midwest Region Diversity dinner at the Chicago Marriott in downtown Chicago.
