Australian Defence Force and Accenture Deploy New Aircraft Maintenance and Management System
SYDNEY; Oct. 24, 2005 – The Australian Defence Force and Accenture (NYSE: ACN) have successfully developed and deployed the second-generation Computer Aided Maintenance Management System (CAMM2).
Built to effectively and efficiently support the Australian Defence Force’s (ADF) air operations, CAMM2 provides an integrated set of functions to support the maintenance and operation of military aircraft. CAMM2 improves the enforcement of airworthiness requirements and provides tools to maximise aircraft utilisation and decrease maintenance costs by increasing the quality, detail and timeliness of aircraft related data.
With support from Accenture, ADF has rolled out CAMM2 to all Commonwealth-owned Navy, Army and Air Force aircraft at 12 sites. More than 12,000 Defence staff will use the system, including engineers, logistics personnel and air crew.
“Advanced technology systems such as CAMM2 provide the infrastructure that enables our world-class defence force to fulfil its mission,” said Brigadier David McGahey. “One specific feature is that CAMM2 supports the maintenance of aircraft on deployment to remote and overseas locations.”
CAMM2 enables engineers to track aircraft configuration and utilisation. It alerts engineers to routine maintenance requirements down to the individual component level in accordance with preventative safety policies. Electronic signatures are used to confirm that maintenance tasks have been completed. Maintenance planning capabilities enable scheduled maintenance tasks to be conducted without conflicting with planned operations and exercises.
In addition, the system allows for remote maintenance and management of aircraft, through the military networks of allied forces and a mobile CAMM2 application, for tracking aircraft in remote locations. The portable CAMM2 system first supported Army aircraft involved in the tsunami relief effort in Banda Aceh, Indonesia, in early 2005.

The Australian Defence Force selected Accenture to develop CAMM2 as the replacement to the original CAMM system following a competitive tender.
