New Regulations Prompt Broad Changes in Corporate Practices, says Financial Project Published by Montgomery Research and Accenture

CFO Project Explores Trends in Corporate Financial Management

SAN FRANCISCO; Oct. 8, 2003–Tough new disclosure requirements and rising competition will likely speed the implementation of sophisticated business analytic and performance management tools at large corporations, according to a new book published by Montgomery Research, Inc. and Accenture (NYSE: ACN).

The book, entitled Competitive Financial Operations: The CFO Project, Volume 2, is the second in a series designed as a forum for chief financial officers on the wide-ranging approaches companies are exploiting to achieve operational excellence.

It contains a collection of white papers, case studies and company profiles representing the thoughts and research of more than 75 industry analysts, practitioners and leading solution providers in the finance industry. Many of the papers stress the urgent need for business performance management systems that provide senior executives with a near real-time view of all business units across the enterprise.

“Corporate leaders are now under significantly increased pressure to respond to new financial transparency requirements and more sophisticated business performance management demands,” said Michael R. Sutcliff, global managing partner for Accenture’s Finance & Performance Management Service Line and an editorial advisor to the project. “The book provides fresh insight into these urgent and challenging issues, among other topics.”

Companies participating in Volume 2 include Business Objects, Cognos, Crystal Decisions, FileNet Corporation, Hewlett-Packard, Microsoft Corporation, Oracle Corporation, SAP America Inc., Satori Group, Inc., Toshiba America Business Solutions, Verizon Wireless, Wells Fargo and Worldspan.

“The finance leaders who received the first volume were unanimous in their praise,” said Nick Smith, publisher for Montgomery Research. “The growing support for this project from Accenture and the leading solution providers underscores the industry’s thirst for bold thinking at a time when finance organizations are re-writing the rules of business to enhance transparency and competitiveness.”

The wide variety of topics tackled by the book and its accompanying Web site, www.cfoproject.com, include global trends; business performance management; shareholder value targeting; planning, budgeting and forecasting; and, business insight. The book also features several case studies demonstrating real-world implementations and subsequent financial impact.
