Kemper Insurance Selects Accenture's Claim Components Software

Accenture’s Web-Based Application Facilitates Claims Handling and Reduces Claims Leakage

NEW YORK; May 14, 2002 Accenture has been selected to implement its Web-based Claim Components software application at Kemper Insurance Companies, a leading provider of commercial casualty and specialty insurance services, and has licensed the software to Kemper. The system will be integrated with Kemper’s current claims application, enabling Kemper’s staff to administer claims more easily and efficiently.

Accenture will work with a core team of Kemper business and IT professionals to implement its desktop component of the software, automating critical business processes to help enable Kemper’s more than 1,600 claims professionals better manage the claims-handling process. The software implementation is targeted for completion within nine to 12 months.

"The Kemper name has long been synonymous with superior claims service," said Patricia Drago, senior vice president, Client Services Group, Kemper’s customer service division. "We are confident Accenture’s new claims management system will significantly improve the claims-handling process for our claims professionals, resulting in an even higher level of service for our policyholders.”

“We are enthusiastic about the capabilities and efficiencies the new system offers,” said Patrick Walsh, vice president, Client Services Group. “Although a complete adjuster workstation system replacement is not practical right now, we see the Claim Components software application as the foundation that we can build on.”

Accenture’s Claim Components application, which Accenture licenses to insurers globally, leverages the flexibility, scalability and lower total cost of operation provided by the Microsoft Enterprise Server platform, and is designed to help reduce development time by 12 to 24 months. Accenture has already licensed its Claim Components software to eight leading property/casualty insurers, and more than 7,000 claim handlers are already using the solution at their desktops to achieve breakthrough claims-processing results.

“Claims payments and loss adjustments consume nearly 80 percent of property/casualty insurers’ annual revenue, yet few carriers have sustained a competitive advantage in claims,” said David P. Hollander, the partner who leads Accenture’s claims solutions group. “Insurers who act now to update their legacy systems and move to the next generation of claims technology will gain a competitive edge as they set new standards for claims-processing effectiveness and realize business benefits faster – and at lower costs – than those who wait.”

Accenture recently announced the launch of release 2.0 of its Claim Components software that supports multi-language and multi-currency financial transactions and includes several new components designed to help insurers significantly reduce claims- handling time, streamline the claims-handling process and reduce claims leakage, payment errors and overpayment.
