Accenture to Build and Run Federal eGovernment Portal in Belgium
BRUSSELS, Belgium; May 24, 2002 – Accenture (NYSE:ACN) has been selected by the Belgian government to develop, operate and maintain a government portal that will serve as a new online interface between the federal government and the people and businesses of Belgium.
The government portal will provide Belgium’s 10 million citizens, businesses and other organizations with access to a wide range of government information and services via the Internet and will eventually facilitate transactions with the Belgian government. Portal users will receive a single identification code, granting them access to government information whether it is housed on federal, regional or local government websites.
During the first phase of the project, which should be completed by the end of 2002, Accenture will build a ‘static portal’ that will enable users to locate existing government information. Work on this phase will focus on the portal’s structure and content, beginning with the design of the sitemap and navigation structure, as well as on the development of enhanced search capabilities.
During the second phase, Accenture will build capabilities that will enable users to execute a variety of government transactions through the portal, including immediate electronic employment notification to the Ministry of Social Affairs; electronic value-added-tax filing; and integrated electronic notification of construction contracts from the worksite to the Ministry of Social Affairs and Ministry of Labour & Employment. The portal is expected to be fully deployed for use in 2003.
